The primary function of the calf muscles, both gastrocnemius and soleus is flexion of the foot; a prime example is standing on tiptoes. Both of these muscles connect into the body's largest tendon, the Achilles. Reading notes on strength training in the fitness section will help you establish your ideal weight, and reading weight lifting in the techniques section, will aid in correct movement.
