Pilates

Often confused with yoga, pilates is a strength and flexability based type of exercise disipline. Thought to be developed by a German gymnast called Joseph Pilates who immigrated to New York in the 1920s, with him came his exercise and fitness techniques.

The pilates method is common amongst several other techniques using a combination of muscle toning and strength exercises with an emphasis on flexibility and relaxation. There is a method of conditioning the mind and body whilst building strong abdominals, improving posture by stretching and strengthening the spine and muscles.

A pilates session can be tailored to your specific needs depending on whether you are in great shape or even injured. As with any self development it gives you an element of self-reliance so that you can use the information you learn to benefit other areas of your life.
